Hike preparation

Leave No Trace

The ADK-9 Challenge promotes the Leave No Trace initiative to protect the outdoors. Learn more about Leave No Trace  at www.LNT.org

Don't underestimate the trails-

The hikes featured in the ADK-9 are meant to be short, half day hikes, it is important to always be prepared for the unexpected. The weather in the Adirondacks can be unpredictable and change at a moments notice. Please make sure to plan ahead for your hike and pack the right amount of gear.

-Extra water (Especially if your dog is hiking)

-Hiking footwear

-Poncho or rain shell

-Lighter, fire starter, matches etc.

-First-AID kit

-Map/Compass (Be sure to know how to use them)

-Equipment (Knife, flashlights, bug spray, sunscreen, extra socks/clothes)

-Healthy snacks for you and or your dog

Be prepared for anything.

PLEASE READ

Always double check the temperature before you take your dog out to hike. The mountains are not going anywhere, use your head. Just because the weather might not be hot for you, it could be hot for your dog!
